Should parents be friends with their kids?
Some thoughts on the right and wrong ways to befriend children.
Should parents be friends or buddies with their kids? In their book, The Narcissism Epidemic, authors Jean Twenge and W. Keith Campbell note that parents contribute to the problem when they try to befriend their kids. That is because parents who style themselves as “buddies” may find it hard to enforce rules and standards.

    Shutting down schools to prevent the spread of the coronavirus pandemic has lead to lead to increased dropouts and huge gaps in learning levels. As states dither over whether to reopen primary schools or not, here’s a study that paints a stark picture to make the case for reopening schools urgently. An Azim Premji Foundation survey of over 16,000 students in primary schools found an alarming dip in language skills and math skills — 92 per cent of the children have lost at least one language ability, while 82 per cent have lost math skills. Deepa Balakrishnan interviews CEO of the foundation, Anurag Behar, who says there is an urgent need to reopen all schools, but with a plan. In the longer term, this is a good case to be made out for having localised schooling like in many Western countries have - that is, children from a locality go to a school within a short distance.?     Education department pushes for Vedic maths in schools

    Gurugram: The state education department is taking steps to promote the usage of Vedic mathematics in schools, and has directed the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) to train maths and economics teachers for the same. In 2016, the state government asked the Haryana Board of School Education to take steps for the promotion of the subject and deliberations to introduce the subject on a pilot basis was started. SCERT will be holding its first three-day training for teachers from next Monday, following which teachers will incorporate lessons in teaching students. Suman Nain, director, SCERT, said that the government had given permission for organising trainings for Vedic maths for the first time. She said that the focus on Vedic mathematics was to ensure that students use methods that require thinking and do not depend on rote learning. “Vedic maths will allow students to approach the subject through another method and enhance their thinking abilities. It will not be a separate subject, but student can use it to complement the western system of mathematics,” she said.for more info
